Basin/Subbasin Boundaries for SW Florida -- This dataset contains basin and subbasin boundaries for southwest Florida. It primarily covers Charlotte, Glades, Lee, Hendry, and Collier counties, but also includes part of several others. Basin boundaries have been revised from previous versions, and subbasin boundaries have been composited from various sources. The dataset has been edited and checked, but it is still likely that changes will be made as more reviewers provide insight and information.</abstract>

For years a coverage named DBASINS, digitized from a ragged wallmap hand-drawn in the 1980s, was the de facto standard. In 2001-2 the boundaries were revised and reviewed by District staff, and were approved to replace the older version. The 2002 version was named PRIM_BASINS. It incorporated data from other sources, such as county-based delineations or basin-modeling efforts, but was limited to the "basin" level of detail and did not include "subbasin" boundaries.</procdesc><date Sync="TRUE">20090204</date><time Sync="TRUE">13205700</time><procsv>ArcInfo</procsv><procdate>2002</procdate></procstep><procstep><procdesc>In 2003 District staff and contractors working for the District refined the PRIM_BASINS coverage for Southwest Florida (SWF) to include subbasins. Data from Lee County, Big Cypress Basin, Caloosahatchee Basin, the SWFWMD, and other sources were added to the PRIM_BASINS coverage. Sliver polygons and other inconsistencies were removed. The boundaries were compared to coverages of canals, water-control structures, existing landuse, and aerial photographs. Further changes were made in response to comments by extension agents and field personnel.</procdesc><procsv>ArcInfo</procsv><procdate>2003</procdate></procstep><procstep><procdesc>Additional changes have been made, in order to fix minor errors/discrepancies and to group the subbasins in more useful ways. Wq_basin names are somewhat arbitrary, but are useful for aggregating subbasins into functional surface-water groups for the SWFFS study. </attraccr></attracc><complete>Dataset covers all of the SW Florida Feasibility Study area, including all of the area covered by the SWFFS model.</complete><posacc><horizpa><horizpar>Because of the indeterminate nature of drainage divides in flat areas and the variety of sources that were used to compile this dataset, it is difficult to assess horizontal accuracy. Much of the linework has been registered to known features, such as roads, canals, or structures. In other areas, the linework is simply a guess. It is quite possible that further review would result in changes on orders ranging from a few feet to a few miles.
