Process_Description:
Processed WCDs for Polk County: Data from Mike Smith, Natural Resources
Dept. of Polk County; delivered in dxf format, had to convert and
project from Fla SP-West to Fla SP-East. No other metadata available.
Matt Hinton, March 20, 1997
Includes: WLL/WLL2, LRL/LRL2, PEACE/PEACE2, WAHN/WAHN2, HAINES/HAINES2.
Note: None of these fall within the District boundaries.
CNTYLINE is the County Line Drainage District in Lee County. It was
created from the Districts base STR map. The border of this WCD falls
almost exactly along the section boundaries; the paper map delivered was
not going to provide better spatial accuracy. The CNTYLINE_PTS cover
contains the structures eyeballed from the paper map, and placed on the
backdrop of the STR map. On the paper map, these structures were
represented with symbols approx. 300 feet long. Matt Hinton
COQUINA is the Coquina WCD in Okeechobee County. This cover was
created from the District base STR map by matching the paper map
delivered to the section boundaries. Matt Hinton
'MA-STL' contains the boundaries of Ch 298 district in Martin and
St.Lucie counties. This coverage came from 'uec-drain', a coverage
mapped by Cindy Whelan for UEC.
'PB-WCDS' and 'BR-WCDS' were retrieved from the work done already by
Terri Bennett and Ed Biggs.
'LEE-WCDS' was created by appending CNTYLINE and MULLOCH. I made MULLOCH
by copying the STR coverage and then selecting out the sections I was
told made up the district. This info was given to me by Jack Ruskai, who
is the engineer for that district via Johnson Engineering (334-0046).

'HE-WCDS' contains Hendry AND Glades County WCDS. It was digitized from
a paper map (blueprint-style) by Tim Lieberman. The original came from
an engineering firm that represents the interests of the water control
districts.

The following are the recent updates made to the coverage from 11/00 to 1/01
Maryam Mashayekhi
SAN CARLOS ESTATES WCD boundary has been added. They sent a DXF file of
their boundary , which was converted to arcinfo and added to the specdist.
The file was received from Debb Gress (941)992-1619. Other contact is
Morgan Dickinson (941)495-4699.
DEVIL'S GARDEN WCD's boundary was changed due to a contract a couple years
back that District bought some piece of their land (Okaloakuchi Slough?).
The boundary of Okaloa project was obtained from Dennis Mierer and clipped out
of the DEVIL'S GARDEN boundary in Specdist coverage.
COOPERATIVE PRODUCER'S WCD boundary was obtained from them. They sent a basic
paper map, which was used to identify sections included in their WCD. Their WCD
consist of 8 sections. The boundary was created from the str coverage by selecting
those sections. The contact person for the Cooperative Producers is Wayne Simmons
at (941)369-2169.
BROWARD COUNTY WCD - In addition to the BROWARD COUNTY #2, #3, and #4
there were 2 extra polygons labeled as BROWARD COUNTY in the old Specdist
coverage. With help from John Higgins awho contacted the County, it was decided that
the other 2 polygons should be labeled as OUT and Broward County should have only 3
polygons labeled as 2, 3, and 4. So, this change was done as well.
Florida Statutes Number - Most WCDs are based on the F.S. 298, however there are
a few that were created based on another statutes. I added the field FL_Statute
which demonstrate this information. Also, the field Function was added to display
the one exception where the entity is listed as Water Management and not WCD.Thanks
to John Higgins who researched this information.
