Welcome to the Florida Geological Survey (FGS) lithologic database.  
This README file provides information about well data files available 
from this gopher menu.  The database contains lithologic  
descriptions of cores and cuttings from wells located throughout Florida. 
These descriptions are coded and stored in ascii files by county.  

The self-extracting file, LITHPROG.EXE, contains a program (FGSLOGS.EXE) that 
will decode and print coded descriptions.  LITHPROG.EXE also contains an
ascii-format user manual (FGSLOGS.TXT).  Please create and place the extracted
program into a folder named 'FGSLOGS' directly in the root of your computer's
C drive.  

*** IT IS IMPORTANT TO READ FGSLOGS.TXT PRIOR TO RUNNING FGSLOGS.EXE ***  

The data (*.dat) files are stored in zipped files grouped by region.  You
will need some form of unzip software to uncompress them.  Please expand
all data files into the same folder as the FGSLOGS program file. 
Each region corresponds to all counties located within the State's five 
Water Management Districts.  Some counties are found in more than one 
zipped file, however, there is no difference in the *.DAT 
file for duplicated counties (i.e., ALACHUA.DAT in SRWMD.zip is the same as 
ALACHUA.DAT in SJRWMD.zip).  The following is a directory of files compressed
