The intention of the project was to determine from a gross planning level what locations within the city limits had a potential for hooking up additional water or wastewater utility customers. Since there is no reliable or comprehensive source of data for private wells or septic tanks, we had to come up with a methodology to predict their location. The location points were deduced from GRU accounts that had electric service but not water and/or wastewater. These points were given a cursory screening for obvious errors, but have not been field verified or screened further. There are undoubtedly many false positives included in the data, as well as many omissions. The points were then overlaid with our existing utility network to determine if they could be served by an adjacent main, or conversely, if they would require a main extension. They were then segregated by this criteria. Note that elevation was not taken into account in determining potential serveability Obviously, any future project development based on this data will require more detailed field research to determine the validity of the points.
